If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?

Granny Weatherwax. No contest.

She is the most powerful witch in the world, and she spends that power quietly. Not for glory. Not for recognition. She spends it on behalf of other people, in ways nobody fully sees and most will never know about. She doesn’t want applause. She wants things to be right.

She is the one people call when nothing else works.

I spent over thirty years in emergency services. I know something about doing the hard thing in the dark, when nobody’s watching, because it needs doing. I know what it is to walk into a situation everyone else has already walked away from and stay until it’s handled. Not because it earns anything. Because it’s right.

Granny Weatherwax doesn’t explain herself. She doesn’t ask permission. She knows what she is, and she carries it without flinching. (Actually, that’s how I get in the most trouble.)

That’s the character I recognize. That’s who I’d be.
