Fourteen Years of Writing for the Love of It (And What’s Coming Next)
It started in 2012 with a genie.
Not a dramatic origin story. Just a story I wanted to tell, a character who needed a voice, and no particular plan beyond getting the words down. Later, after many fails, I drew inspiration from the family tree. Staunton, on my grandfather’s side (later to be Staton). He descends from high British nobility, and we always wondered why the fall from grace. Well, 7th son, of the 7th son kind of thins it out. But it was the beginning of what became the Giftwright Tales series under the Karine Green name, and for fourteen years, writing has been exactly that: something I do because I can’t do it.
This month, that changes a little.
In May 2026, I’m launching a new pen name. JM Tangard will be my home for mystery and suspense, with a clean romantic thread woven through. The first title is The Salt Marsh, Book One of the Nightwright Files, set in Sarasota County, Florida. If you like atmospheric mysteries with sharp characters and a city that feels alive, this one is for you.
And if fire investigation thrillers are more your speed, mark July 2026 on your calendar. The Burn Squad series launches under the Firefighter’s Code imprint of Staunton Press, written as Penny Richey.
Three names. One writer. Fourteen years of practice.
I think I’m ready.
